Even if you never dim your lights, don’t use a non-dimmable CFL Bulb in a dimmable fixture. Although your CFL bulb will function correctly, you run the risk of someone accidentally dimming the light. Also, Energy Star CFLs come with a 2-year warranty and using non-dimmable CFL bulbs in a dimmable fixture will void your warranty.

You can get more light by using a higher watt equivalent bulb. Each fixture comes with a watt rating which is the amount of electricity the fixture can safely use. There is very little danger of exceeding the recommended watts because CFL bulbs use very few watts, but put out just as much light.
An 18-20 watt CFL bulb puts out the same light as a 75 watt incandescent bulb. To get more light you can use a 23-25 watt CFL bulb to get as much light as a 100 watt incandescent bulb and still be under the recommended wattage for the fixture.

Keep using CFL Bulbs all year. Some people mistakenly think that their incandescent bulbs help heat their homes in the winter. While it’s true that incandescent bulbs give off heat, it’s only a small amount.  Incandescent bulbs are the least efficient way to heat your home.  CFL bulbs save you even more money because your electric bill goes down significantly.
